Hegerfeld was licensed. Our current family team is rounded out with Jackson Hegerfeld Land Broker/Auctioneer, Megan Hammond, Land Broker/Auctioneer, Charles Hegerfeld, Land Broker Associate, Laura Hegerfeld, Broker Associate, Lisa Gebhart, Broker Associate, and Dave McMahon, Broker Associate.

Having farm, ranch and banking roots near Elkton, South Dakota, Advantage Land understands rural markets, the value of the land and the family history that goes along with farmers and ranchers. Our family shares a combined 94 years of real estate experience, 101 years of banking and finance expertise, and 115 years of farm and ranch operations.

Meet the Advantage Land Team

Jackson Hegerfeld, Land Broker / Auctioneer
Jackson is currently a Land Broker, Auctioneer, and Farm Manager across South Dakota and Minnesota. He is the lead auctioneer and Broker for the Advantage Team which they are known for their Large Multi-Parcel Land Auction method with offering several thousand acres to the public at one time and many times resulting in large buyer attendance and multiple purchasers achieving max price for our clients. His experience in farm management has led him to improve several farms efficiency, yields, and acres into productivity through various farm projects. Jackson is a member of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers (ASFMRA) where he is working toward earning his accreditation in Farm Management (AFM). Being a regional land broker he not only has local knowledge of the markets but a wide spectrum of knowledge on different soil types, yields, rents, values, and active buyers across the entire region.

Growing up in Elkton, South Dakota on a cattle and row crop farm, Jackson understands the agricultural community along with the commitment and hard work it takes for a family business to be successful.

As a graduate of Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, Jackson has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and a Minor in Economics. Throughout his years at Northern, Jackson played for the NSU Wolves football team and was honored to be team captain his senior year.

Jackson married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, and they now have two sons, Mason and Dawson. Jackson is an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoys working with his dogs, hunting, farming, working cattle, and spending time around a campfire with friends and family. Jackson custom farms 230 acres of the family farm near Elkton with 90 of the acres sown to CRP grass and tree belts that he also manages for prime habitat for wildlife, soil quality, and erosion purposes. His experiences of growing up on a farm have built Jackson's knowledge base and passion for agriculture and the outdoors that continue to grow more each day.

Megan Hammond, Land Broker / Auctioneer
Megan is a 4th generation Brookings County, South Dakota native. Although her time in Boise Idaho was a combination of educational fun through commercial real estate, cutting horses and friends, she is glad to return home to South Dakota amidst family, new and old friends, and the family business. Her roots run deep in farming and ranching through her great Grandpa Fred and her parents, in banking and real estate through her Grandpa H.E. and Uncle Chuck Hegerfeld. Being a close knit family, Megan knows the value of service and it is her goal to serve with the level of excellence that has been modeled from her family.

Megan is a licensed land broker, auctioneer, bid assistant and land manager in South Dakota and Minnesota. Since 2008, she has sold row crop farms and ranches across South Dakota and Minnesota including corn, wheat, soybean, and sunflower farms along with a variety of cattle ranches, range land and recreational hunting land.

Knowing the power of two, Advantage Land Company and United Country, Megan uses the most beneficial marketing techniques of both to develop unique solutions for each land owner/seller. She also is versed in live auctions, online auctions, and traditional real estate listings and uses each or a combination to meet specific needs of her clients.

She graduated with honors from Mount Marty College in Yankton, South Dakota, with a degree in Business Management and Marketing, and was part of their fast pitch softball team all 4 years. Megan currently aspires to obtain designations offered through ASFMRA and the NAA and her involvement with SDAA, NAA and United Country will continue to build a network of friends and associates growing her personally and ultimately helping those she serves.

Spending time with her family, including her husband Lane and daughter Josephina, gardening, sewing, walking, biking and riding horse are just a few things she enjoys. In her spare time she enjoys the experience of livestock auctions, especially the Fort Pierre Livestock Barn with a good west river ranch friend. She is an active member of the worship team at Gracepoint Wesleyan Church in Brookings South Dakota.

Chuck Hegerfeld, Land Broker Associate
Humility. Integrity. Reliability. Having been in finance his entire adult life, Chuck has foundational experience. The value he brings to land owners and buyers through his understanding of finance, investments and economics is priceless. He has served in the real estate sector for 19 years, assisting in marketing a variety of South Dakota and Minnesota properties.

With a degree in agricultural economics from South Dakota State University, Chuck's primary focus is serving as the President of BankStar Financial, which he has led since 1998 and grown from one to three locations in Brookings County, South Dakota.

Chuck and his wife Toni have four daughters and are active in their community and church. Chuck enjoys an occasional pheasant hunt, spending time with family, taking in his daughter's basketball & volleyball games and being a subtle, but influential family member. Chuck not only is a valued part of our family but is a tremendous asset to our family business as his character and attitude steer us toward building lifetime relationships.

Laura Hegerfeld, Broker Associate, Office Manager
Proud to be a native of South Dakota, Laura was raised on a farm near Howard with a family background in farming and ranching. She has continued that lifestyle in Brookings County for the past 33 years while raising three successful children. As a real estate agent since 2011, her experience with families, cattle & crops throughout her lifetime makes her an invaluable asset to anyone selling land as her wisdom and compassion helps others walk step by step through difficult situations. Her ability to offer practical solutions with common sense is among the best. Laura's bookkeeping experience for a commercial cattle operation provides skills of attention to detail and ability to multitask, also making her our invaluable office manager.

Because she is very much family oriented, one of her greatest joys is pending time with her 6 grandchildren on the family farm near Elkton, S.D. Laura has recently accomplished several extended bicycle rides, taking in the beautiful scenery of South Dakota, from the corn belt to the black hills. One of her favorite hobbies is horseback riding on the trails across South Dakota and Minnesota.

Dave McMahon Broker / Associate
Dave is licensed in South Dakota and has over 12 years of experience in real estate. Dave has a degree in accounting and has over 25 years of experience in investment and finance. He grew up on a farm in eastern South Dakota and enjoys hunting & fishing, and spending time with family.

Lisa Gebhart, Broker / Associate
Lisa has been actively selling real estate in South Dakota since 1996. She graduated from South Dakota State University in 1985 with a major in Commercial Economics and a minor in Computer Science. She enjoys spending time with her family and going to the lake cabin during the summer months.
